ATO launches helpful GST property tool
For those property owners who find it daunting keeping track of their tax obligations, help is now at hand! the Australian Taxation Office has launched an internet-based tool to help people dealing with porperty to better understand their taxation obligations and entitlements. The tool is designed to help you determine the GST implications for property-related transactions that you make.
Acting Tax Commissioner Jennie Granger explained that in conjunction with the ATO property webpage, "these initiatives are a great starting point for anyone who wants tax matters to be explained properly and simply.
Why Homeowners and Landlords should go green
The Australian Government has proposed a new Energy Efficient Star rating scheme to be introduced from 2012. The proposed scheme will require that homeowners provide performance information on their energy and water consumption, as well as greenhouse emission levels, to prospective buyers and renters. That is, all homes being put up for sale or rent will have to be assed for a Energy Efficient Star rating before they are sold or rented out. It will require a $200 fee to have your property assessed...
Handy Hints - Swimming Pool: Keep your children safe
Have you ever thought about how long it takes to drown? Not a nice subject I know, but a timely one with summer just around the corner.
According to the drowning report published by the Royal Life Saving Society Australia, over the last five years, 150 children under the age of five drowned. In the past twelve months alone, 28 drowning deaths were registered and 43% of these occured in swimming pools.
